Iran’s political system and connection around the world has been constantly developing for decades. However, around the 1980’s, Iran started losing their trustworthiness around the world due to events that took place in Iran. Prior to the 80’s, during World War 2, Russia and Britain took over and began occupying Iran. This was called the Anglo-Soviet invasion and it lasted about a month, from August 25th until September 17th in the year 1941 (Iran Country Profile). The British, Soviets, and other armed forces were attempting to establish Iranian oil fields and create supply lines for Soviets. Iran was a huge resource for these countries at the time and land there was very valuable. They began taking over Iran and their military operations were nothing that could compare to those of Iran’s. The image above describes how forceful these powers were in taking over Iran and how easy it truly was for them.
These forces, British and Russia, were the most powerful in the entire world during their time. While they were in the Middle East, information relating to weapons and military could’ve been passed down to the Iranians. The invasion was very easy for these forces to accomplish and Iran realized that and knew they needed to improve, somehow, militarily. Clearly, from the above image, Iran had no sort of defense and was not aware for this invasion. The destruction of one of their warships pushed them to become more involved militarily. This invasion could’ve been the start of the Soviet-Iran collaboration and during later years Iran recruited former Soviet nuclear engineers. The fact that Iran recruited Soviets who know possibly the most about weapons-grade uranium is very concerning for the well-being of the United States. Along with this invasion, The Iranian Revolution pushed the U.S. away from Iran and their beliefs.
