Oppenheimer's MistakeChaos within the country was a leading factor in why Iran’s nuclear program began developing at such a rapid pace. They needed something intimidating enough to hold off forces while they reorganize their entire economy. This is when the nuclear bomb was of extreme help to them. A theoretical physicist, known as J. Robert Oppenheimer, is the so called “father of the atomic bomb”. While the bomb was in progress, everything had to remain classified which is why the creation took place in a top secret lab in New Mexico. Once the bomb had been formed, then the U.S. was considered to be the most threatening force in the entire world. After creating the bomb and detonating it in New Mexico, Oppenheimer said, “I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.” He knows what kind of damage this will do in the future but it didn’t stop him from furthering his research and successfully creating the atomic bomb.

The First Bombs
On August 6, 1945, some of the first nuclear bombs, meant for destruction, went off in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This tragedy, as shown to the left, sent the two countries into complete ruin and also created a world-wide panic for nuclear knowledge. The fact that it takes years to create one of these bombs but only seconds to launch is a terrifying realization for these nations. There is no chance to evacuate cities, and all they can do is wait. The only form of protection was acquiring a nuclear bomb for your country. Even at that, this is still creating more danger around the world because if a nation threatens to launch, then a domino effect will happen thus sparking worldwide nuclear warfare. Iran was amongst the first to realize this and they began developing their nuclear program at an intense rate. Currently, the dilemma is how we continue using nuclear energy as a power source rather than a weapon of mass destruction.
