In 1979, a shake to the Iranian political system occurred and was known as the Iranian Revolution. The overall objective of this revolution was to overthrow the Pahlavi dynasty who was westernizing and secularizing Iran. Mohammad Pahlavi’s intentions were much appreciated by the U.S. and that’s why the overthrow pushed the United States away from Iran. There was a motivating saying known as, “neither East nor West”, which led the revolution. The people of Iran did not want to be like the Soviets or the Americans, they wished to flourish under their own religious beliefs. The banner that the people made was in form of protest against Pahlavi and it states their honest opinion towards the government. Everyone needs to have a say in order for any success in economic situations to be apparent.
The U.S. soon realized that it Iran would start becoming very unstable, politically, and very risky to work with. People are demanding for their needs to become reality and this has caused major instability. Along with this political instability, Iran would lose control of their organized military which would leave them vulnerable to enemy forces near them. Parts of their military were distracted by protestors and keeping domestic safety rather than worrying about outside threats. Almost immediately after the revolution, the economy and government began weakening and almost all power had been lost. This is what truly worried allies, like the U.S., because there was too much chaos happening for any benefits to come from them.
